This accent, you just put it on

University gets so hectic in third year. If I could go back to my 18 year old self, I'd say enjoy first and second year while it lasts, it gets very busy very quickly. I remember when I used to spend so much time painting polka dots, flowers and paisley on my nails, but I've got so lazy now deadlines take priority. For lazy nails, there's one thing I love, accents. It's such an easy way to make your nails look done, without actually having to do that much! The past few birthdays and Christmas', I've asked for nail polishes. As much as I love 'out there' shades like this Models Own silver, they can be a bit much on all ten fingers and thumbs, but I don't want to leave them unloved on the shelf. Since I've started using accent nails more, I've been able to give my unloved shades a wear, toning them down with my usual colours. With that said, maybe I should put down the Fiji every day and start using the bright greens more? Can anyone tell my nail varnishes are my babies? They should be, most my first and second year loans went to buying them. Oops!

Pamper or party?

A perfect pamper indulgence can be necessary sometimes. And this was *cough* my New Year's Eve night *cough*
To others, a twenty year old, spending the last night of the year in the hottest, bubbliest bath and considering it a choice well made may be a tad, pathetic? But I'm glad I did, I unleashed my inner Miranda Hart, embraced my lonewolf status and thought of nothing but myself, all night.
Waking up for the first day of 2014 refreshed, with glowing skin and a new hair colour seemed a far better alternative to a regretted hangover and upset bank account.
I'm planning reviews on the Origins Mask and La Roche Posay Effeclar Duo after a few more uses, I can't yet make up my mind. But as a review of Alexa Chungs book: buy it, right now. (Same applies for the Toblerone)

I'm a hazard to myself

Blog, meet Hazard. I was very naughty on the 20% off student day and went a bit wild, when I was only meant to be "buying my winter coat and browsing." I'll blog about my other purchases at some point but I am most excited by my gorgeous Topshop lipstick. I've wanted one for a while, I'm a sucker for packaging, but when a Topshop make up artist helped me find the shade I wanted I just couldn't say no. Any make up artist who can know what I mean when I asked for "dirty red" is clearly quite talented! Clearly I know nothing about describing make up so shouldn't really blog at all, but apparently "dirty red" was description enough. My go-to red has been the Bourjouis Colour Boost in Red Sunrise as it's so moisturising and easy to apply but as Hazard is a much deeper red I think it's less of a statement and suits my hair more! Unlike Red Sunrise, it's super pigmented so you have to be really careful when applying to not go overboard, but it sets surprisingly matte which I love. The one thing I can't stand about make up is being able to feel it on your skin, or lips, but when you only apply a little amount it is really light, so pretty much the perfect formula for me! I'm that in love with it I've dented a whole in it looking at myself while pushing the lid onto it (idiot) but hopefully I'll use it so much it'll smooth out soon. I'm now on the hunt for another Topshop shade, what have I started?! P.S, if anyone's missed me, which I doubt, I've been crazy busy starting back at uni but I'm going to get back into a blogging routine soon.

I'd call it Bronze Strength

I really wanted this product to work, but it didn't. I adored the 60 second shot and was hoping for a similar result on a cheaper cost-per-use size*. I didn't hate it, it wasn't awful, but it just wasn't enough. At best, I'd call it a average conditioner, no where near the quality of a mask. With that said, if it was only promising to be a decent conditioner I wouldn't mind. Yet, when a product make such huge claims as to reverse 2 years of damage, you come to expect a lot. Maybe my 2 years of damage is more than others, it's been a busy 2 years of hair damaging clearly!

*In fairness, I didn't pay for this product, it was reduced in Asda so was cheekily chucked in my nans trolly. (Does this count as my first disclosure? Ooh I'm such a blogger now...)

Red Sunrise

I’m not normally one for a red lip, past attempts have been slightly short of a disaster. One example is when I had very dark hair and very bright flash and I ended up looking like a vampire transvestite. As much as I am avoiding that ever happening again, except maybe a Canal Street Halloween event, I’ve managed to find a red lip product that I love. The Bourjouis Colour (I know it’s Color, but I can’t bring myself to spell it like that) Boost lip crayons are a relatively new release that have been really popular with bloggers. After seeing Lily Melrose suit the Red Sunrise shade and my hair colour being similar, (ish, not similar enough) I thought I’d give it a whirl. I find them to be really moisturising and comfortable on the lips, although still not too glossy. I wouldn’t say the colour lasts for the promised 10 hours, yet they are surprisingly pigmented and do stick around for quite a while. I would recommend them to anyone as an easy pop of colour. I’m really hoping they bring out some more shades.
As a side note, I'm still poorly and so so bored, if you can think of anything I can do, or blog about, to keep my mind busy please comment it below. I'm worried I'll start calling everyone 'your grace' if I read any more Game of Thrones!

Aldi mascara, really?

First of all, the shape, wink wink nudge nudge, is hilarious. I'm not sure if a hilarious shape is a plus side of a mascara, but if it was. Secondly, the price. I actually don't know the price as I was given it but after a quick internet browse, I found its around $4. For Aldi, you'd understandably be surprised to read it's not actually that bad! It is very thick, and even thinking about putting it near your lashes leads to the spiders legs effect. But if you're very gentle, it can lead to dramatic, thick lashes. I probably won't repurchase, unless I get really skint, but for what it is I can definitely recommend. In other news, I'm typing this on the bus, and it has its heater on. What?!

Coral Pro

As ashamed as I am to say it, I think I’ve had this Avon Nailwear Pro polish for 8 months and not yet used it. With the way I organise my nail polish collection, I keep my Models Own and Essie ones near the front, leaving the others behind. My Nan and Uncles girlfriend both work as Avon representatives so when I asked for nail polishes for Christmas, I received this as one of them. I of course appreciate them, but just forgot about them! This shade, for obvious reasons called Coral, is a gorgeous pinky-red toned colour that’s really bright on the nail. I used three coats here as they’re not heavily pigmented enough for my taste, but I’m sure two would do. I’m glad I tried this out, finally, as I was eyeing up a really similar bright coral shade from Essie. I’ve saved myself £8 there! Hopefully this will kick me into gear of using up the neglected polishes left to the back of the shelf.

Cocktail Bling

Recently, I've realised I actually know all the proper names of my nail varnishes. I'm pretty sure normal people think "I'll wear the grey one today" not "I'll wear the Essie Cocktail Bling one today." Obsessed much? I worry myself.
Moving swiftly on... I haven't reviewed this Essie shade yet, and thought I'd combine it with a bit of a nail art post. I'm not massively keen on this Essie, compared to how much I love Mint Candy Apple and Fiji anyway, but it is a lovely purple/blue toned grey. I think I've seen this toned grey defined as elephant grey, but who knows! Hopefully I'll enjoy wearing it more in winter, but I've got really into pale pastel colours this 'summer.' As a bit of a catch up, I'm currently packing up my house ready to move on Monday, and reading/watching a lot of Game Of Thrones, why am I not a Khaleesi?

Note to self: don't be a cheapskate

I've been washing my hair every day since I can remember, I always feel better when it's just been washed. Yet, this is obviously really bad for your hair so I've cut it down to once every other day and it's made such a massive difference to its condition and how quickly it grows. However, this means it's greasy (it probably isn't that bad, I just hate it) every second day, so dry shampoos are a godsend. My old job had stacks and stacks of Batiste samples, for some unknown reason, so I forgot how expensive they could be once I left that job and my Batiste supply! I thought, being thrifty, I'd try a cheaper alternative and picked up a Superdrug, worst decision ever. It's such an awful product. The smell is a false, chemical, overpowering scent and it didn't actually make my hair feel or look any cleaner. I might try a few other Batiste dupes, as I know there are so so many now, but maybe I'll read a few reviews first!

Spring nails

I'm so glad to get back into blogging, I should really be revising, but now that essays are out of the way I can justify the odd break (I think.) This post is inspired by Alix's post on spring nail colours and here are a few of my favourite polishes to wear throughout spring, I'm starting to think spring might have sprung, I have the sun burnt knees to prove it! I'm not really a fan of the bright neon colours, they make my fingers look even thinner and longer than they already are, but I do love pastels. Models Own Utopia and Essia Fiji are shades I go back to all the time as they're so easy and wearable. If I had six fingers, I also would of included Barry M Gelly in the Lychee shade which I adore. If you have a similar post to this please link in the comments as I'd love to see!

Muffin

Ok ok, I know I'm meant to be quitting buying so much nail varnish to save for my summer fund, but Boots conned me into it with there 3 for 2 offer, I promise! I needed a repurchase of my Lasting Perfection concealer and the Stay Matte powder after this happened, sob sob. So I may as well, right?
Anyway, this polish is so lovely, it reminds me of Utopia, but obviously a more blue toned than lilac. In terms of the smell, it smells horrible when it's wet, and when it's dry it isn't that overwhelmingly nice either. Also, it took three coats to be a decent coverage. (Ain't nobody got time for that.) So I wouldn't really recommend it. Although, I do love the colour so I'm definitely glad I bought it, but I can't say I'll be buying into any of the other shades. Have you posted about any of these new shades? Or maybe the neon ones? I'd love to read your thoughts too!

Dainty Doll

I'm sure you've seen plenty (probably too many) bloggers talking about the Dainty Doll products selling ridiculously cheap on Fragrance Direct, but here's my little space on the internet to ramble on about it! I love the packaging, it's so classic and fuss-free. I've been after an eye shadow base for a while now as I really dislike the natural colour of my lids, they're quite red and just weird looking (probably just me that thinks this!) So I always put a small spot of concealer there, so it's nice to finally have something that's meant to be there! WHY DO I EVEN BLOG I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MAKE UP?! Haha! Anyway..... I really like them is what I'm trying to say, and at their ridiculously reduced price tags, I recommend you go and have a look!

Evie Knight

I'm a big fan of 'local produce' in food and especially fashion, small Manchester boutiques like Thrifette are my favourite. We should all do our bit to help keep independent businesses alive in this economy. I got an email from Evie Knight about their newly launched brand and I love their pieces, here are a few of my favourites in a wishlist. My absolute favourite is the Nina Skater dress but all of them are so lovely! I love how the site gives the pieces cute names like "cold shoulder lace blouse" and "coral catcher skater dress", it makes them sound so quirky! What are your favourites?

Lychee

So, I accidentally picked up the Lychee shade of the Barry M Gelly range, a shocking few days after I promised not buy any more. Oops. I love the nude shade trend, so I'm glad to get one. I've only applied two coats even though it could do with three to be fully opaque. I'm far too lazy for that! I wish it was slightly less yellow toned than what it is, but in some lights it looks gorgeous, I want to try it with a glitter topcoat next and it would be perfect for a nail art base.

Collection 65

You know when you have no money or clothes and wonder where it's all gone, erm, awkward, I just realised. In my defense quite a few of these were gifts and a few were bought in offers like the Models Own 50% off sale, but I really don't have an excuse to have a grand total of 65 nail polishes when I don't even use half of them regularly. My favourite brand (obviously) is Models Own, the formula isn't incredible especially in terms of longevity, but they are my go to brand because of their packaging (sad, I know.) If I had endless amounts of money I would definitely move over to Essie as my newest purchase Figi has me hooked and the Nourish Me is amazing. Rimmel polishes have to be my favourite to apply, as the brush in the Lycra Pro collection is really wide and thick. I've never been a massive fan of Barry M products, even though I have no logical reason to not at all, I think it's because the packaging is a bit chavy for my liking (again with the packaging, stop.) Although the Gelly range has definitely won me over, I've bought Blueberry and the lilac shade which I can't remember the name of. I really have my eye on the Lychee shade after seeing Milkteef's post about it, but after this count I think I might steer clear of boots and superdrug for a while!
I'm currently storing all my polishes on a shelf under my TV, which is the perfect height for them, but I really want one of the shelves I keep seeing people Instagram to display them properly, as there's so many I don't use just because I can't see them at the back! Please comment with links to any cheap polish shelves if you know any, or maybe your blog post about your storage?

Fiji

This polish is the love of my life, sorry Models Own Utopia, you've met your match. I bought it about a week ago, as you can read about in this post here, but wanted to save it for my birthday weekend (I'm a sentimental idiot like that!)
As an Essie polish, it obviously is high quality, so I don't really need to talk about that, but the colour is just so so gorgeous! Perfect for spring and summer. Now I've got three Essies, that can count as a collection right?

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion

I cannot believe I have 50 followers now, thank you so much, I appreciate it so much. I never thought anyone would want to read what I have to say, but I suppose everyone feels like that.
I bought the MUA Undressed palette and it came with the Pro Artiste Collection palette, everyone loves a good freebie! The Artiste palette has now ended up becoming one of my most used product (even the blue eye shadow - 90's fancy dress party anyone?) I hate the highlighter in it, it has a really weird texture and looks awful on my skin, but the blusher is perfect, as you can see on the photo I've hit pan pretty quickly! It is such a lovely coral pink shade, not too creamy but not too drying, and such a baragin price of only £1, I'm definitely going to try out more shades.
I think shade 4 is the same shade as the "Pink Sparkle" shade in the palette, it seems the same to me anyway. Does anyone else cringe at the word sparkle? Reminds me of childish glitter, and this quote from my favourite film.

Directions

I will get this look!

Don't even know why I try blogging I'm the most unphotogenic person ever ever (I only had eyeliner on!)

I wish I could brave a Zoe LDN look, but I'm no where near brave enough, and with volunteering and working, I don't think they'd appreciate me walking in with bright pink hair (as much as I'd love to) so maybe I should settle for a Heather from Effies Make Up Box type look, I love her hair colour/style/everthing. I keep saying that I'm having a pre-graduating mid-life crisis. After I graduate and enter the real world I can't have crazy hair or whatever I want, scary.
I put on a dye from superdrug before Christmas, and I did really love it but it wasn't bright enough at all, but for the cost of it I can't really complain. Seeing as I was putting it on top of a dark colour rather than a blonde, it was never going to be that bright.
I picked up a Directions pot from Afflecks Palace however, and really loved it! I think the two times I've used it I diluted it with conditioner far too much, so it didn't make a huge impact to what I already had, but because of it only being semi permanent and compared to permanent shades quite good for my hair, I don't really mind doing it a few times a month to keep it topped up. I might have another go soon not diluting it anywhere near as much to see what happens! As much as I love having long hair, it is only hair. It will grow back, eventually!

(p.s, I didn't wash the conditioner out properly in my roots, so put a bit of dry shampoo on, it's not actually grey at the roots!)
